Welcome
Volunteering on Prescription is an innovative project in Powys that aims to help people with mental health issues re-access their communities through volunteering.
The project covers four geographical areas: North Montgomeryshire, Knighton & District, Brecon, Machynlleth and Dyfi valley.
People can be referred to the project by their GP, Social Worker, CPN or other health professional.
Anyone referred to the project will be met by one of our dedicated project co-ordinators, who will help them find a suitable volunteering placement that will be both stimulating and interesting and will help them move forward in their recovery. The co-ordinators offer ongoing support, can help organise training, and arrange regular social events for volunteers.
The project helps people with a wide variety of mental health issues, ranging from schizophrenia to mild depression. All tend to be suffering from a lack of self-confidence and a feeling of disconnection from their community. Volunteering, by its very nature, helps people build up their self-confidence and to re-engage with their communities.
If you are experiencing mental health issues, or if you are a mental health professional interested in referring someone to the project, please contact us for an informal chat (see "contact us" page for details).
